St Dunstans

tags: internet radio TV consultancy

St. Dunstans approached C2K to provide consultancy on a multimedia project to setup a radio station for the Blind. The idea being to empower and employ St. Dunstaners to run the station providing independence.

The project was to cover both broadcast and webcast based options. Although not fully discounted the FM/AM broadcast spectrum were almost saturated in localised areas with the national network being almost impossible to enter due to cost levels and other impracticalities.

The emphasis of the project began to focus on internet based radio stations. This was nothing new of course and a radio station for the Blind had already been setup in Glasgow with VIP On Air.

This project was to provide employment for the blind rather than just a radio station fo the blind. The process began to fact find on how to run radio stations. Information was captured from radio companies throughout the UK and the US including large stations such as WCBS and WQXR in New York, 107.1 The Bone and KQED in San Francisco and KKJZ Long Beach, California.

Unfortunately the project never produced the 'fruits of its labours' and was cancelled due to strategic re-evaluations.
